Our school oval is a great asset that provides large areas for kids to run and play. It is, however, an area that needs to be used with adequate supervision. As the school grew past 80 students this year, the school took the decision to provide two duty teachers on the oval. This allows us to provide a safe secure supervision arrangement on the school oval. As this provides an additional burden on the number of duties, students are provided with an opportunity to access the oval on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday for half of lunch time. The students do not go to the oval at recess. On Tuesday and Wednesday, years 2 to 6 students are provided with an opportunity to go to the library, reducing the number of students on the main playground by up to 15 students allowing more options for safe movement on the playground.
The school values the physical well being of students and provides 40 minutes of Got Game time and 30 minutes additional PE time per week. In many cases this is provided on the school oval. This results in up to 2 hours and 10 minutes per week that students may access the oval. Students do not access the oval when it is wet and the surfaces are too unsafe to play upon.
