A big welcome back to you all for 2017. We start the new school year eager to start our learning programs and to resume our relationship with our wonderful community. There are many changes all around us and this first short newsletter will talk about some of these changes. We look forward to seeing you this week. We have many new families joining us as well as some sad departures for year 6 and other families who have moved on to new places. We wish them all well.
The holiday period saw a significant increase in the work along Campbell Street with the commencement of one way operation along the road and the demolition of houses. The school and members of the community met with SMC and the New M5 Consortium to discuss the state of play with the project and future work to commence. The significant item was that demolition is behind the planned end of January completion. It was reported to us that all properties have now received clearance for being free of hazardous materials and thus they may be demolished. This unfortunately took longer than expected and coupled with a delay in the disconnection of power lines along Campbell Street has caused a delay in demolition. At this stage a new completion date of 24 February has been set. Once demolition has been completed, a 3m high acoustic wall will be constructed around the construction zone to reduce the chances of noise pollution. We will continue to keep the community updated as we receive information. The road will then also become 2 way again.
Accessing the School
Due to the WestConnex activity, the school has been asked to facilitate greater access to the school through Silver Street lane. From Monday, the gate will be open from 7am to 9:30am and from 2:30pm to 6:15pm. This will allow parents a different choice of entry to the school should they wish to avoid Campbell Street. Silver Street can be accessed from Unwins Bridge Road and the Princes Highway.
Classes commence this Monday for year 1 to 6 students. We will be going straight into classes and commencing leaning programs straight away. Our 2017 classes are:
Kindergarten - taught by Ms Garner (commencing Thursday)
Year 1 - taught by Ms McSpadden
Year 2 and 3 - taught by Mr Park
Year 4, 5 and 6 - taught by Ms Charlton
New Lunch and Recess Procedures
Following a proposal and survey at the end of last year, the school will be commencing a trial of new lunch and recess times. Crunch a sip will continue at about 10:10am. The new times are:

Lunch Eating - 11:40am to 11:50am - Classrooms
