Welcome to 2018

  Classes 2018

Classes commence this Monday for year 1 to 6 students and after the Best Start Assessments are completed kindergarten students will start school. We have over 30 new enrolments starting this year and assuming that all students present to school we are expecting over 110 students at the beginning of the year. We will thus be forming 5 classes. These will include a kindergarten class, a kindergarten/grade 1 class as well as a grade 1 and 2 class. In all cases where a grade is split, we urge parents to understand that decisions of class divisions are made to best cater for students. We do not split children according to academic ability, but we do consider which students will be best suited for a class. All teachers at the school will differentiate learning to all learners. If you have any questions about this, please don't hesitate to contact Mr Lavitt.

Tomorrow we will be forming four of our five classes with kindergarten students joining the K-1 and forming the K class on Friday. The classes will be:

  • The Koalas - Kindergarten - taught by Ms Garner (commencing Friday)
  • The Echidnas - Year K/1 - taught by Ms McSpadden (Y1 Starting tomorrow)
  • The Wombats - Year 1 and 2 - taught by Mrs Iriarte
  • The Goannas - Year 3 and 4 - taught by Mr Park
  • The Dingoes - Year 5 and 6 - taught by Mr Lavitt

We welcome Ms Cho will be commencing working at the school tomorrow and she will be providing English is an additional language or dialect (EAL/D), and Learning and Teacher Support (LaST) to students requiring support as well as supporting the Dingoes. Mrs Bishop will work Monday to Wednesday and Ms Plummer Thursday and Friday as support teachers.

Parent Information Evening - 12 February

The school will be holding a parent teacher evening at 6:30pm on Monday 12 February. This will be a chance to gain valuable information from the school and collectively meet your child(ren)'s classroom teacher.

Changes to Lunch Time

To allow the school to fit in a 5 class RFF roster in for Mandarin and Music, a minor change to lunch times will be made. Lunch will now commence at 11.10am and eating time will now be 15 minutes at the end of lunch from 11.15am to 12.00pm.

Canteen

Canteen will start in week 2 on Friday's. In the interests of student health, the canteen will no longer be offering fruit juices to students. This is following numerous teacher concerns about student behaviour on Friday's following canteen. Ice blocks will be continued to be sold at the beginning of lunch on the school oval.

Chess

Chess will start again this term on Wednesday 14 February at lunch time. This term, bookings and payments will be made directly to the Sydney Academy of chess and open to year 1 to 6 students. Kindergarten students will be allowed to join in terms 3 and 4. A note will be sent home tomorrow with the information about making bookings. We believe that chess went very well with the teachers very impressed with the progress made by all students.

Swimming Carnival

The school swimming carnival will be held on Tuesday 6 February from 10am to 12.30pm. The carnival is open to all students who turn 8 and above this year. Thus older year 2's will be eligible to enter. A note will be sent to all students turning 8 and above tomorrow.
