UODPS Public Speaking Competition

This Wednesday 14 November, St Peters will play host to the Grand Final of the Ultimo Operational Directorate Primary Schools Public Speaking Competition of which Dr Lavitt is the competition Chair of the in 2018. Nearly 250 schools (including St Peters Public School) have participated in the competition this year moving through school and network competitions to participate in the finals on Wednesday. We are expecting a higher volume of traffic into the school car park on Wednesday so Mr Bird will be helping by guiding cars to park on the top end of our school oval. Our stage 3 students will be helping out with the final to ensure that it runs smoothly and that all of our guests know where they are going.

Assistant Principal for 2019

St Peters this year had enrolment numbers that allowed it to qualify for an Assistant Principal. These are executive teachers who have greater responsibilities that classroom teachers while themselves having a class that they have to teach. This year, Mrs Iriarte has been acting in this position and the school has been using small school supplementation funding to resource her higher duties.

Last term, following acknowledgment of future school growth, the Department of Education released the requisition for the school to form a panel and advertise for an Assistant Principal position. This was advertised just before the end of the holidays and the panel worked very hard to short list, contact references and then interview candidates. The panel unanimously chose to offer the position to Kirsty McIntosh who subsequently accepted the position. Kirsty will commence her tenure at the beginning of next year. She has many years of experience teaching including tenures at Belmore South PS, Strathfield North PS as well as teaching in the UK. We welcome her to St Peters and look forward to benefiting from her considerable experience and enthusiasm. We also thank Mrs Iriarte for her hard work and professionalism acting in the role this year. She will continue to teach at St Peters next year.

Remembrance Day

This Sunday 11 November marked the 100 year anniversary of the end of hostilities on the western front in the First World War. This terrible war included the contribution of many ANZAC service persons and the loss of life of some of them. As a mark of respect, the students tomorrow morning at 10:55pm will be assembling in front of the flag pole which will be held at half mast. The last post will be played followed by a minute of silence to show our respect. The flag will be raised to its full position after this.
