Hats

Please ensure that your child has a hat and knows that they need to wear it at all times in the school playground unless they are in areas of shade. If lost, a home hat will be acceptable for one or two days while a school hat is sourced. They aren’t allowed for longer periods so please purchase a school hat.

Toys

St Peters Public School is one of a number of schools that has a relaxed policy on students bringing in toys. Our smaller size has facilitated this and our staff work hard to ensure that it remain trouble free. We do, however, now have concerns on two fronts. Firstly, beyblades, which appeared earlier this year have started to become a problem. Many of the younger children are obsessing over them and this has resulted in an increase in the number of incidents involving them. We are also concerned that children’s beyblades have gone missing due to being left mistakenly causing distress. We have thus taken the decision to place a ban on beyblades at school. Any beyblades brought to school will be confiscated and passed directly to the parent/carers/OSHC picking the children up.

Allergies and Anaphylaxis

All public schools in NSW follow strict guidelines to manage and minimise the effects of anaphylaxis in schools. All staff are trained yearly in the theory and practical steps to deal with allergic reactions and anaphylaxis. Parents are also required to notify the school if their child has an allergy or anaphylaxis. St Peters has taken steps in recent years to better minimise the risks of anaphylaxis. This includes eating inside, preventing the sharing of food and taking steps to advise parents not to make food containing allergens such a peanuts. We will always be vigilant for new risks and our staff our trained to respond with asthma puffers, adrenaline auto-injectors and we are trained to undertake CPR and use defibrillators. Please ask if you have any specific questions.
