Last Friday our principal Dr Lavitt replanted a tree with respect for Mr Bannerman who provided many years during the 1980's and 90's following his retirement to help look after the grounds at St Peters. Another tree unfortunately died and this is a replacement planted on national Tree Day. The tree should be visible to all who enter the grounds of the school.
Peer Support 2018
For the past 3 years the school has implemented Peer Support at the school. Peer Support provides school communities with an evidence based, peer led approach to enhance the mental, social and emotional wellbeing of young people. It offers the older students at the school the opportunity to become peer leaders who will work with groups of younger children according to a theme which this year is keeping friends which focusses on relationships and will support students to develop the skills and knowledge to maintain friendships and interact with each other in a friendly and positive way.
This Wednesday and Tuesday our year 4, 5 and 6 students will be involved in a preparatory training workshop run by Dr Cooper who will be running the Peer Support program at the school this year. Miss Cusack will be taking the Koalas on these days. The training is designed to focus on the strategies that student will require to run weekly workshops with the children that will be held on Tuesday’s after lunch. Together with reflection and formative assessment by the teachers supervising the groups, the work will contribute to the Personal Development Health and Physical Education reports this semester. Years 4, 5 and 6 students will still participate in Got Game on Thursday.
Jeans for Genes
This Friday the SRC are running there next fundraiser for the year. Jeans for Genes day. Jeans for Genes was established in 1994 by Children’s Medical Research Institute to fund revolutionary research that helps diagnose, understand, and find cures or treatments for conditions affecting kids, including genetic diseases, cancer, and epilepsy.
1 in 20 kids is born with a genetic disease or birth defect. On Friday wear some denim (jeans or something else) or at least wear something sky blue (not our uniform) and bring in a gold coin donation. All funds will go to Children’s Medical Research Institute.
