Languages Abound!

Korean Coming to St Peters Public School

In 2016 St Peters Public School introduced Mandarin as a language other than English to be taught in the school. Since then, all classes at St Peters enjoy having lessons in Mandarin every week by the enthusiastic Ms Yang. It has been very successful and has led to increased interest in the school as evidence based research shows that learning other languages is very beneficial. The intention was to increase this opportunity for students and we are very pleased today to announce that St Peters Public School has been successful in applying for Korean Plant-A-School funding.

This is a 4 year commitment to fund 1 day a week of Korean Language teaching at St Peters with 2 years being paid for by the Korean Education Office and 2 years then being funded by the school. Consequently, students at St Peters in 2019 will benefit from learning two Asian languages simultaneously and the benefits of appreciating broader Asian culture. Dr Lavitt will this Wednesday afternoon attend a signing ceremony at the Korean Education Office in the city.

Do it Right Day

This week St Peters will hold its first ‘do it right day’ to continue our focus on positive behaviour for learning (PB for L). Do it right day is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their understanding of expectations of how to be safe, be respectful and be a great learner at school. Throughout the day staff and House Captains will conduct spot checks in corridors, bathrooms and classrooms to ensure that all students are putting into practice what they have learnt in term 3 during PBL lessons. To place extra importance on this day students, have the opportunity to earn a bonus 10% on our PBL column graph. Providing we can do it right this week that extra 10% can ensure we fill our graph and celebrate with a movie afternoon this Friday. Good luck everybody and remember the teachers will be watching.

Assuming students are successful in achieving the 100%, a movie treat will be made available for students. For years K-2, a G rated movie choice will be provided whereas for 3-6 a PG choice will be made available. An ‘opt out’ note from the PG movie will be sent home tomorrow with 3-6 students.

Canteen Pasta Day

This Friday the canteen will be providing a special offering, the canteen will have on the menu Rigatoni pasta with tomato and basil sauce, which we will be prepared fresh on the day in the canteen. They will also be providing tasty cheese as an optional extra. Cost will be $3 per serve. A booking form is attached to this newsletter and a copy of the order form will be sent home tomorrow.
