Sydney Children’s Hospital - Inspire Art Project

Each year Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation invites a school to submit works of art for an exhibition in the Hospital named INSPIRE! The goal is to use inspiration artwork from students to lift the spirits of the patients, staff and families who walk through the corridors of the hospital every day.

We are very excited that St Peters Public School was successful in their submission to be the INSPIRE! School Of the Year for 2019. We feel very honoured!

All students from Early Stage 1 to Stage 3 will be involved in creating artworks for INSPIRE! during term 2 and part of term 3, with the exhibition starting (held at the Hospital) in September. There will be the opportunity to view the artworks and/or purchase them if you wish ( all funds raised to the Hospital). We also plan on exhibiting artworks here at school during term 3 or 4.

The theme of our submission was ‘biomimicry’ ( the design and production of materials, structures, and systems that are modelled on biological entities and processes), which we plan on linking with our school garden and science studies of the ‘Living World’, and other curriculum areas.

If you are interested in getting involved with the project we would love your input! This is a great opportunity for the whole school community to be involved and connected with student learning. Please stay tuned for more information.

Premiers Sporting Challenge

SPPS is once again participating in the Premier’s Sporting Challenge (PSC). The PSC encourages all students in public schools to be more frequently active by increasing their participation in sport and physical activity. The challenge will run this term (10 weeks) and is a fantastic opportunity for all students and staff to make positive healthy changes to their lifestyles. Students are working towards individual awards based on the amount of physical activity they engage in. Students in 3-6 will receive a log book to record their activity and staff will monitor K-2 students. All types of moderate to vigorous physical activities can count toward an award. Activities may include time spent in a broad range of sports and recreational pursuits during lunchtime, in school sport programs, class time, before or after school and on weekends. So, good luck to everyone and enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle. The staff are all taking part so get into the habit of talking to your chilren about what they are doing to improve their fitness.

Silver Street Gate

The Silver Street gate handle will be replaced shortly with a new handle that is more suited to the outside elements. It will be programmed to open and close as previously and following parent requests it will open at 7am. We expect this work to be completed this week or next.

P&C Meeting

The next P&C meeting will be held this Wednesday 8 May at 7pm in the school library. Please come along and show your support for a busy group of parents who are working to make a difference in the school.

Cross Country Carnival Ribbons

The ribbons for the Cross Country Carnival held at the end of last term will be handed out at this weeks assembly. The South Sydney PSSA Zone Cross Country Carnival will be held at Mascot Public School on Friday 24 May. Dr Cooper will attend the carnival and will shortly be in touch with students who achieved the qualifying times for the cross country carnival. We will be calling for Parents to take their children to the carnival and we would like some parents to help with supervision of our runners while they are there.

Korean Dance Group

For the next two weeks, we will have a very friendly and informal audition to recruit dancers during Korean class. We will just dance to a Korean pop song for about 3 minutes in a group of 10. Ms Yoo will look for happy dancers rather than skillful ones. The result will be notified individually via letters to parents and carers along with a plan for the happy dancers.
