Inspiring Week!

Students from SRC after Sydney Children's Hospital event

Inspiring Week!

After many weeks of creating artworks and planning for the opening, the St Peters Public School Biomimicry project is having its opening night this Thursday. As part of the preparations for the project three of our SRC students were invited to check out the Children’s Hospital and to meet some of the patients as well as so a workshop with them. Paulo, Lilly and Mathieu went last week and reported.

“On 10 September we visited The Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick. There was an important reason for our visit: it was part of our collaboration with the Hospital for the Inspire Art Exhibition that starts next week.

We left school at 12:45pm and joined in a weekly art workshop with patients at the Hospital and a visiting artist, who specialised in cartoon drawing. We made our own mini books and comic strips. We also looked at some other artworks by different artists on display around the Hospital. It was great to visit and see what happens at the Hospital and meet some of the patients.”

This Thursday is the opening and all parents and their families are welcome to attend and perhaps even vuy some of the artworks. In addition, our year 5 and 6 will be performing, as will the Band Ensemble. They will be mostly travelling by bus. It has been a great privilege to work with our community and the Children’s Hospital at Royal Randwick to help raise money for this great cause.

St Peters Public School - Tech Club - EOI

Our school is excitedly investigating the possibility of an after-school tech club to engage students in years 3-6 of St Peters in technology initiatives and provides opportunities for technology learning beyond the classroom. The aim is for students to learn about various technology tools, and to practise and enhance their knowledge and skills, whilst increasing awareness of the relevance of technology to our everyday lives. The club would more than likely be held from 3:15 - 4:15 after school on Thursdays with a 4 - 5 week focus on fun, hands-on learning activities in technology such as coding with Lego (WeDo 2 and EV3), online coding, digital video production and Minecraft in Education. There may be a small charge for the sessions to cover the cost of equipment and resources. Additionally, to join, it will be necessary to be an enrolled member of Helping Hands which children will be taken to if they are not picked up on time.

Please complete this short survey to express interest in your child being involved in the STEM club.

St Peters Public School - Tech Club Expression of Interest

Thank you to the Federal Government

Students from our school in week 7 undertook an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To reduce the cost of the excursion, the Australian Government contributed funding of $20 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) program towards those costs. The rebate will paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion. St Peters Public School would like to thank the Australian Government for its ongoing efforts to help subsidise the cost of this important program.

NAPLAN Online Readiness

This week our year 3 and 5 students will be involved in NAPLAN online readiness testing. Designed to provide the school with an opportunity to do a test run of how NAPLAN will look next year when we do the tests online. Year 3 and 5 will be doing a  mixed, reading, numeracy and conventions of language test while the year 5’s will be doing an types writing test.

Science Afternoon

Our Positive Behaviour for Learning science afternoon which the children have been working towards as a PB for L goal will be held on Friday this week. Teachers will be picking 2 activities which will be completed in two sets of three teachers classrooms. Students will do their activities in their peer support groups with two groups in each room. They will swap over after recess so all students will get to do both activities.

REMINDER - Parent Teacher Interviews

Our parent teacher interviews will be held next Tuesday. If you still haven’t booked, it isn’t too late to use the Parent Portal to book your interview. This can be done at: http://bit.ly/34Nbq0M

Remember that this is an opportunity to find out how your child is progressing this semester and it effectively acts as a mid point to the progress in the second half of the year. Our teachers are eager to see you and talk to you about your child’s learning.

St Peters Street Car Park Gate

It is envisaged that this week the St Peters Street car park automatic gate will be commissioned. Once in operation, the gate will be open in the morning 8:25am to 9:15am and again at 2:40pm - 3:15pm. The gate has an egress loop that will open it on demand if leaving the car park and the gate is closed (it will automatically open when it senses your vehicle). If you come to the school outside those hours you will need to buzz the office to let you in. Access to the car park will cease once the work on Campbell Street is completed.

Botany Bites - Important - No Lunch 24 September

The school has been advised by Botany Bites that it is very happy with the response to the service that they provide to the school on Tuesday lunch times. As such they are happy to continue with the service into 2020 at the same time.

However, they have advised that they will not be able to provide a lunch order service in the last week of term - Tuesday 24 September. You will not be able to place an order for this date in Flexischools and thus you need to provide lunches on this day.
