Week 3 News

  Library

Library will be commencing for all students this week. Students library day is indicated in the week ahead in learning overleaf. Student in Kindergarten and year 1 will be able to borrow one book this semester and those in years 2 to 6 - two books. Library bags are required. Kindergarten students received their bags at orientation. No bag - no borrowing and if books are not returned no borrowing.

Parent Information Evening

A final reminder that our parent information session where you will get a chance to meet your child's classroom teacher as well as gain more information as to what is happening in the school this year is this Monday night. Helping Hands will be providing child care to children whose parents have indicated that they need it while we are in classrooms. Please come to the school hall before 6:30pm. Our teachers are keen to meet you and talk with you about how their classes are setup.

Canteen

Canteen started last Friday and we understand that their was some minor confusion for which the school apologises. We have attached to this newsletter a letter from Ms Demirel who has coordinated the canteen for many years on behalf of the parents. This explains the menu and how items may be ordered. Canteen is optional and families may elect to bring in their lunches. Students should all bring in crunch and sip and perhaps a snack for recess in the afternoon. All lunches are eaten at the end of the class period (11:45am) in class. This allows us to focus on hygiene, the monitoring of eating and managing potential allergens.

Scripture (SRE) & Ethics

Thank you to all that returned the scripture class opt in/out note. For those who opted out we will be able to offer primary ethics. All non scripture students are eligible for primary ethics but families may opt out of this to do non scripture. This will start this Tuesday for stages 1 to 3 (Y1-6) where we now have confirmed teachers for all the students opting to do SRE and primary ethics. For kindergarten we are still assessing numbers and exploring what program we can offer. We intend to start in week 4.

Chess

Chess will start this coming Wednesday. Parents are invited to enrol their children directly with The Sydney Chess Academy using the details on the note included with this newsletter. Please ensure this is done by Monday night so that we can properly access numbers and appropriate supervision required. Chess is open this semester to year 1 to 6 students. Kindergarten may join in semester 2.
